Humane Long Island is featured in a Newsday investigation revealing rising deaths and mass injuries at the home of the Belmont Stakes.

“’New York needs to let this cruel industry either stand on its own or die, like the more than 30 horses who were killed at Belmont just last year alone,’ said [John] Di Leonardo, executive director of Humane Long Island, an animal advocacy organization.”

John is part of a lawsuit aimed to return a $455 million state loan to the privately owned racetrack back to the taxpayers.
